Determining your GMT(+/-)

(For those of you living outside of the states, refer to this image instead: http://imgur.com/msXHB.png)

Image

    • EST - Eastern Standard Time: 5 hours from UTC (GMT - 5:00)
    • CST - Central Standard Time: 6 hours from UTC (GMT - 6:00)
    • MST - Mountain Standard Time: 7 hours from UTC (GMT - 7:00)
    • PST - Pacific Standard Time: 8 hours from UTC (GMT - 8:00)
    • AKST – Alaska Standard Time: 9 hours from UTC (GMT - 9:00)
    • HST - Hawaiian Standard Time: 10 hours from UTC (GMT - 10:00) (Unlike most states in the US, Daylight Saving Time is not observed in Hawaii, which maintains its 10 hours difference behind GMT throughout the year. In short, the GMT will always be -10.)

Determine your GMT and count from a Star Tournament's GMT (this is typically EST). For example, if I live in the Eastern time zone (GMT - 5:00) and I want to find out what time an ST will be for me that's hosted in the Pacific time zone (GMT - 8:00), I would count 3 hours back because the difference between -5 and -8 is -3. So 12pm for me would be 9am for the Pacific time zone.

Please try and utilize this as best you can before nagging at someone about what time a Star tournament will be for you. In the event that you cannot compute your time zone or are unsure you got it right don't hesitate to post in this thread prior to an ST for me to assist you with figuring it out.

It occurred to me when I split the topic that I cannot move any threads to the Star Tournaments section, so I got stuck moving this one here... Whoops. Could you move this back into Star Tournaments? Thanks.

Most should. If they don't they'll specify within the topic.

You do relize that this picture is wrong.

UK has time zone 0 and Denmark is in +1.

It would mean much to everyone if you would fix this.

Usually that would be correct, however during Daylight Saving time you add 1 to the normal GMT you would have. So during Daylight savings time the UK is +1 GMt and Denmark is +2.

Yes but everyone adds +1 to their time, so it should still remain the same.

I'll look into it when it's actually relevant. Too tired right now.

There's a few countries which dont use Daylight Saving Time and occasionally the TIme is put up as GMT, so if you didnt know you were +1 hour you would likely convert the time wrong. While yes I understand your point as the difference btwn 2 time zones dont change there still are reasons why they change the time zones for DST.
